I really wish that Google Places would find a better method for supporting independent contractors like dentists, Realtors, Mortgage reps, Estheticians and others that share a common address, but are a unique business.

They don’t specifically call out Google Voice, but they do point out using numbers like this. Like anything you can do it, but you have to hope it doesn’t come back to bite you. A colleague and I had a chat with one of the top contributors from the Google Places Help forums about this after SMX and he agreed that while it can help with issues where there are multiple business entities sharing a location and main phone number it could come back to bite you.

I wasn’t aware they’d changed that, I’d gotten a place approved with a Voice # last year, so that’s good to know. Was that confirmed just recently?

The only thing you need to be wary of with Google Voice is that if you are worried about Local SEO it can screw you up. Not to mention you can’t use Google Voice for your phone number in Google Places. GREAT for sites not worried about that sort of thing, but definitely something webmasters and businesses need to be aware of.

I love Google Voice! I also recommend the Google Voice extension for use with Google Chrome. I can text from my computer!

Unfortunately, not only does this not get thumbnails to appear for my site, but my Title and Description disappeared after adding the above og: tags. My thumbnails are 130×90 px. Not sure if that kills it. Also, some of my Descriptions’ content contains HTML tags.

Any other advice?

I don’t think it’s related to the page type because I added a friend as admin and she was able to create a /username no problem whereas I was required to get 25 likes.
