Case Study: Baby Steps

Well, after doing the basic setup of the client’s site in WordPress, it turns out they already had their email through Intuit, and will be using that platform for their site. So far it seems like an okay platform, and I don’t see any major hijinks from it so, whatever the client wants is fine with me there.
Google Local: Verifying 2 businesses at the same address and phone
Well it was less painful than I thought, but they want it postcard verified this time, and there was no option to do it over the phone. That means the ham Law Group will need to keep their eyes open for that tiny little Google Postcard that will be coming in 2-3 weeks. it’s a bit of a bummer that it takes so long, but I guess it’s a way to “vet” the business’s validity and I can’t think of a much better way myself.

Thanks for the guide to the verification, that process wasn’t really very clear on Google.
Although it says 2-3 weeks, I found it to be considerably shorter than that (about a week). But I’m actually glad that they are doing this instead of phone verification, it keeps everybody honest.
I’m sure doing Maui real estate You’ve got a tough time competing locally, have you noticed the change in Google Local yet?
Aloha Jeremy,
Interestingly enough, Hawaii is by far one of the most competitive markets in the US when it comes to online competition. I took it upon myself to learn SEO and have been doing increasingly well (my site is about a year old and I set my expectations accordingly). But yes, Google Places has been a bit of a equalizer, giving sites with little on-site/off-site optimization a chance to be seen in the SERPs. I can’t say that I’m happy with that though, I’d prefer to see competitors ranking highly because they DESERVE it (through hard-work), not just because they filled out their G P profile correctly.
By the way, really digging your site, very informative.
